Dr. Aisha Dad

Aisha Dad is currently a Research Affiliate at the Carolina Asia Center and the Director of the Classics Gaming Collaborative. She received her PhD in Comparative Literature from Harvard University. Her research encompasses myth and performance in Graeco-Roman, Classical Persian, and South Asian literature as well as its reception. Thematically, she focuses on the poetics of the body, especially when coded feminine, and its conflation with narrative construction. Her forthcoming book, ‘Through the Looking Glass’: The Narrative Performance of Anarkali (Harvard University Press) studies the performance of mythology through the highly Orientalized South Asian figure of Anarkali. Her current book project, Sophocles in South Asia, addresses the reception of Sophocles’ tragic maidens, Antigone and Electra, across Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India.
